Samson Smasher, Rum Barrel Aged

Smashing glass is one thing, but how about some rum barrels! After acquiring a used Rum keg from our friends at Twisted Path Distillery, we did just that. Well, kind of. With the flavor profile of the original brew, we felt it would be a perfect beer to layer with notes of rum. We let this beer sit in the barrel for 18 months to infuse the rum notes and allow the flavors to marinate. We were delighted discovering fruity esters had emerged of green apple and pear while mellowing the alcohol “heat” typically found from barrel aging. Samson would have loved to smash a few of these while saving his princess!
